Singaporean Universities – Splendid Educational Experiences

Universities in Singapore are reflective of the country’s excellent infrastructure and propitious environment for holistic development of an individual. Be it engineering, management, science and technology or culinary arts, the facilities and faculties available are at par with the well-known international counterparts.  The universities in Singapore can be divided in two broad categories: Public and Private.

Public Universities of Singapore

There are 6 public universities in Singapore: National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Of these, NUS, NTU and SMU are the most popular ones and rank among the best in the world.

National University of Singapore (NUS)
NUS is ranked consistently as one of the world’s top universities. It is the oldest higher learning institute in Singapore. NUS is a comprehensive research university. Initially established as University at Singapore in 1962, it was merged with Nanyang Universtiy and named as NUS in 1980. It has 16 faculties and schools across 3 campuses – Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah and Outram. Kent Ridge is the main campus and the largest campus at any university in Asia.NUS has been ranked between 1 to 5 for various courses in Asia and in the top 25 global universities

Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
NTU is the fastest-rising university in the world’s top 50. It’s ranked 47 globally and in the top 10 in Asia for almost all courses offered. It is the world’s biggest engineering institute. NTU offers a broad range of study options. It has approximately 33,500 students in various faculties such as Engineering, Business, Sciences, Humanities, Arts, etc.  It has a 200-hectare lush green campus. It has an excellent infrastructure including high-speed internet and wi-fi connection which enable great E-learning facilities for the students. Faculties from all over the globe interact with the students owing to the hi-tech facilities and thus learning is more comprehensive and  enabled.

Singapore Management University (SMU)
SMU was established in the year 1997 with a broad vision of providing excellence in business management and law.SMU provides holistic university education and interactive pedagogy in the heart of Singapore. It offers world-class Bachelors, Masters and PhD programmes. The university has 8000 students and comprises 6 schools such as Business Management, Accountancy, Economics, MIS, Law and Social Sciences. Wharton Business School, U.S.A. has a joint education agreement with SMU and has its Wharton-SMU research center in the campus of SMU.

Private universities in Singapore (PEPs – Private Education Providers)

There are many PEPs (Private Education Providers) or PEIs (Private Education Institutes) in Singapore.  Many of the private universities in Singapore are foreign universities such as JCU (James Cook University, Australia), UNLV (University of Nevada, Las-Vegas, U.S.A.), Curtin University (Australia), NAAEC (Ngee-Ann Adelaide Education, Australia), Temple University (U.S.A.), Cardiff Metropolitan University (U.K.), Queen Margaret University (Edinburgh, U.K.), etc. All these universities have brought a very global and international appeal to the education in Singapore and allow students to take courses or spend one or two semesters abroad.
